Sr Staff Accountant I
American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Sr. Staff Accountant I to join our Finance (FIN) department. This position will assist in the month end closing process by preparing journal entries, reviewing transactions for reasonableness and accuracy, preparing reconciliations and roll forward scheduled and monthly variance analyses. In addition to the month end closing, this position is also responsible for certain tax filings, unclaimed property compliance, and ad hoc projects throughout the month. This position is also responsible for review of some items prepared by the Staff Accountants. This position is responsible for ensuring comprehensive and clear documentation is provided to support and assist the financial reporting team in the preparation of financial statements for the Parent company and its subsidiary companies.
Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $69,200 to $82,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range.
Remote Worker Considerations
Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed).
Responsibilities
Compiles and analyzes financial information for entry into general ledger and reporting in the financial statements.
Applies principles of accounting and maintains the financial records in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, Company policies, Finance Policies and internal controls.
Adheres to corporate policy with respect to HIPAA and PHI.
Meets departmental and team specific performance standards and timelines.
Prepares or reviews the monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensures a timely completion.
Reviews a large volume of monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepares complex journal entries and posts to X3 general ledger system, timely, with sufficient and clean support.
Reviews journal entries posted to X3 general ledger system.
Reviews journal entry binders on a monthly basis.
Prepares the fixed asset roll-forward schedule, including additions, disposals, other transfers and the depreciation calculation for accuracy.
Prepares or review payroll related journal entries.
Supports preparation of the sales commission calculation.
Performs analytical review of balance sheet and income statements during the close process, making adjustments for corrections or accruals.
Prepares or reviews 6-month trended income statement and balance sheets, analyzing the variances that exceed scope and providing reasonable explanations of variances to management monthly.
Supports Associate Manager and Associate director in preparation of ad hoc reports and reconciliations.
Supports and actively participates in annual financial audits, regulatory audits, and other ad hoc health plan audits.
Receives and manages Schedule A requests from various agents, brokers, and third-party ERISA compliance agents.
Participates in the documentation and implementation of SOX 404 compliant internal controls and processes.
Work closely with general ledger team on training and journal entry preparation
Support the unclaimed property compliance, including research of uncashed checks, research of state requirements, managing due diligence letters and responses, and the state filings.
Completes ad hoc projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Bachelor’s degree with a concentration or minor in Accounting
Minimum four years of industry or three years public accounting experience. Experience in public accounting preferred.
Proficient in MS Office including advance experience with Excel and Word. Experience using Sage X3 accounting software is a plus.
Experience in a Sox 404 compliant environment preferred.
CPA license is a plus.
Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving, and technical skills including strong knowledge of GAAP accounting.
Understanding of integrated systems.
Effective project management skills to facilitate projects, remove barriers, monitor milestones, and accomplish deliverables according to plan.
