SUMMARY
This position manages a team of adjusters within Ryder's self-administered liability program. Oversees claim-handling processes performed by a professional staff. Handles complex insurance and contractual coverage issues, with a primary emphasis on complex high exposure liability claims. Assists Director in the identification of exposures, recommends solutions, promotes loss prevention and monitors compliance with procedures and supervises documented safety / risk management programs
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Managing a team of adjusters in the investigations, vehicle inspections, and resolves complex and high exposure claims, as well as directs outside vendors, independent adjusters, experts, and other vendors in the claim handling processes. Manage outside vendors to ensure claims are being handled properly according to the applicable jurisdictions. Provide feedback to Director regarding quality of vendors
- Manage assigned staff to ensure both technical expertise and a high level of customer service are attained. Monitors staff's technical work and develops and implements action plans if deficiencies are noted. Monitors staff's workflow to ensure accurate processing of claims, timely establishment of reserves, claim reviews and coding.
- Responsible for coaching, education, audits, file reviews and performance appraisals of assigned staff. Assists Director with other staff as directed. Work with Director and other management team to develop tactics and strategies to achieve annual metrics and other KPI’s
- Participates with the Director in the selection and management of outside vendors for investigation, cost containment, audit functions, and expert witnesses
- Interacts with field and operations management, legal counsel, safety managers, customers, and insurance carriers. Participates in large claim review calls and updates field operations personnel on claim status.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of commercial auto and general liability insurance coverage, claim handling and litigation management. Heavy transportation claim experience preferred
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing Property and Casualty claims in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Handles cases in compliance with state statutes. Works directly with various State Departments of Insurance as appropriate. Alerts the Director to changes and proposed changes in laws that could impact Ryder’s program
- Reviews reserves and trends on individual cases, and recommends and sets timely and accurate reserves based on documented file developments. Ensures the most appropriate resolution of all claims is reached, and that a high level of customer service is attained
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Primary backup for the Director assisting as directed with claim assignments, reviewing and tracking all facets of vehicle repairs and authorizing use of adjusters and appraisers
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience required.
EXPERIENCE
- Seven (7) years or more experience in Large and complex casualty claim handling and management experience
- Two (2) years or more experience Supervisor and/or Manager experience
SKILLS
- Strong commitment to the principles of customer focus
- Requires superior claim technical skills, past experience handling commercial claims and a comprehensive understanding of the related coverages
- Superior negotiation skills and ability to deal effectively with customers, claimants and insurers
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written communications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, educate and develop staff members
- Ability to effectively communicate precise directions to staff members
- Ability to monitor staff members workflow to ensure timely resolution of assigned work
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability to supervise assigned staff members responsible for handling casualty claims including conducting audits and performance appraisals
- Demonstrated ability to handle and manage large exposures
- E_ _xperience in completing detailed and quality internal reports
- E_ _xperience in managing assigned staff to meet assigned goals and metrics
- Demonstrated ability to handle and manage complex insurance and contractual coverage claims
LICENSES
Adjuster licenses in multi-states , preferred.
TRAVEL

Salary is determined based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market
data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; certain degrees or
certifications, etc.
The salary for this position ranges from $95,000.00-$125,000.00 annually based off experience
