Principal Research Data Scientist
About the Role
As Principal Research Data Scientist at Coalition you will be responsible for measuring, understanding, and helping optimize Coalition’s usage of data for cyberinsurance. You will use analytics, experimentation, and modern statistical techniques to help us understand and improve our cyber risk selection and reduction, pricing and automation in order to grow our revenue in a safe and efficient manner. You will also guide and support others to achieve those goals.
Responsibilities
Lead cross-functional projects using quantitative analysis and advanced data modeling to discover insights that will guide strategic operational decisions and uncover optimization opportunities
Identifies significant problems and participates in defining the roadmap at team level.
Lead the design and delivery of data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards and performance metrics that support key product decisions
Ability to analyze disparate data sources and synthesize into a narrative of what is happening in the data
Training/mentorship of junior employees.
Present the work of the team to internal and external audiences in the form of presentations, articles, blog posts, etc.
Contribute and grow the culture of data excellence on our team by bringing mature empathy, best practices, and processes to our organization
Skills and Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics or related technical field.
10+ years of experience in related analytical, data science or consulting background,
Understanding of and experience with experimental design and statistical methods
Experience working with data in Python, SQL, and similar tools. Ability to write clean and understandable code that is used by others. Experience working with cloud environments.
Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex topics to non-technical audiences

Bonus Points
Master’s degree or PhD in quantitative field.
Actuarial qualification.
Several years of experience in the insurance and/or cybersecurity industries.
Ownership or participation in open source projects.
Experience with cybersecurity data
Exposure to causal inference, and other advanced statistical methods to measure impact of initiatives
Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $132,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
