Salary: £24,300 - £29,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. London Weighting may be applicable for this role.

Job Introduction

BBC Children in Need believe every child and young person deserves the opportunity to thrive and be the best they can be.

The charity funds local charities and projects working with children and young people facing disadvantage in communities across the UK. We are seeking a Press Officer to support the team in our external communications function.

Main Responsibilities

Working closely with the PR & Communications Lead and you will:

  • To devise, deliver and implement BBC Children in Need media and PR campaigns to raise the charity’s profile and increase engagement
  • To collaborate with colleagues and departments across BBC Children in Need and the wider BBC to plan and deliver PR campaigns and activities in support of the charity
  • Generally provide administrative support for the Press and Celebrity Liaison functions
  • To compile and disseminate BBC Children in Need press materials with accuracy and attention to detail
  • To plan, coordinate and deliver press and PR events including photoshoots, visits and launches
  • To help provide a proactive and reactive press function for BBC Children in Need
  • To keep abreast of all potential reputation issues that may have an adverse impact on the charity

Are you the right Candidate?

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of media relations and/or publicity gained within a previous PR/Press role – agency or in-house
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully developing and delivering PR campaigns
  • Experience/knowledge of the charity sector and/or in entertainment/TV/broadcast publicity
  • Good journalist contacts across the national, consumer and trade media
  • A proactive self-starter with an ability to generate high quality, creative ideas
  • Strong understanding of the changing world of media, in particular the digital landscape
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Copywriting experience
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
