Salary: £27,600 - £34,650 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. London Weighting may be applicable for this role.

Job Introduction

BBC Children in Need believe every child and young person deserves the opportunity to thrive and be the best they can be.

The charity funds local charities and projects working with children and young people facing disadvantage in communities across the UK. We are seeking a Senior Press Officer to support the team in our external communications function.

Main Responsibilities

  • To devise, deliver and implement BBC Children in Need media and PR campaigns to raise the charity’s profile and increase engagement
  • To lead team in identifying opportunities to raise awareness of our work and align to the daily news agenda
  • To lead team to identify key opportunities to  raise awareness of the challenges and barriers facing children and young people
  • To work with the team to develop insight-driven PR opportunities and contribute to reputation building activity within the charity/funding sector
  • To compile and disseminate BBC Children in Need press materials with accuracy and attention to detail
  • To support the PR & Comms Lead in delivering a proactive and reactive press function for BBC Children in Need – including managing, preparing for and supporting on issues and reputational risks as required
  • To plan, coordinate and deliver press and PR events including photoshoots, visits and launches
  • To collaborate with colleagues and departments across BBC Children in Need and the wider BBC to plan and deliver PR campaigns and activities in support of the charity, including Appeal related programming and campaigns to support our partnerships
  • To work closely with colleagues in the Nations and Regions to raise awareness of the charity’s funding across the UK
  • Deputise for PR & Comms Lead as required

Are you the right Candidate?

We are seeking a Senior Press Officer with the following experience:

  • Experience of successfully developing and delivering external communication campaigns
  • Experience of delivering and supporting on corporate communications
  • Strong crisis communication experience
  • Good journalist contacts across the national, consumer and trade media
  • A proactive self-starter with an ability to generate high quality, creative ideas
  • Experience/knowledge of the charity sector would be advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Considerable copywriting experience
  • Influencing and negotiating skills.
